Painting Fish in Hot Springs - The Arkansas Extension Home Economist's convention was held this June in Hot Springs and I was invited back to host several rock painting work shops. We painted colorful tropical fish, and once again I was amazed at the creative use of color and the many imaginative touches my students came up with. Rock Painting Get-together In early June, a group of avid rock painters gathered on the shores of Southwest Missouri's Table Rock Lake in what we all hope turns out to be the first of many such gatherings. Wandra Dees served as the hostess, having dreamt up the event at her lakeside home appropriately called "Dee's Dream," and graciously extended her invitation through the rock painter's club on yahoo, www.clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/rockpainting.  Over a dozen of us converged from Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma to paint rocks, talk, laugh, enjoy a lake cruise and rock picking expedition and enjoy what was quite possibly the most outrageously tasty bar-be-que supper ever served, courtesy of "Carol Oklapainter" and her master chef husband, Eric. 

Even some rain showers could not dampen our spirits as we shared stories of what this simple yet satisfying creative pastime has meant to us. We held a rock swap that was a clear highlight of the event, with everyone who participated coming away with a delightful sample of another painter's work. I was lucky enough to receive an adorable rock mouse, complete with curled leather tail and a chunk of painted cheese held in his little paws, lovingly and skillfully painted by "Susiehazelnut."

 

The folks at Artist's Club donated sample packets of Patio Paint and Wandra had made up special fabric carry-alls for everyone who participated. What a great weekend!!
